WINDOWS TECHNOLOGY COURSE
Introduction
AEIO delivers and licenses a half-day course on fenestration,
focusing on windows. This short course is suitable for professional
development training to industry or as a module of a university or
college program on building science, heat transfer or HVAC. It can
be delivered in-class or online.
This is an applied course that focuses on the heat flows through
windows and how to minimize or maximize these flows. The logical
stepwise approaches to understanding and analyzing these flows
are illustrated with detailed examples. Many different
state-of-the-art glazing technologies are also presented along with
methods and software tools used to design better windows.
As a professional development course, this is ideal for engineers
and technologists with no background in windows, or for those
looking to refresh or update their understanding of the topic.
This course is also well-suited for sales representatives and
manufacturers seeking to better understand the technology and
science behind their products and the products of their
competitors.
No prerequisite is required. All of the necessary basic concepts,
tailored for the experience of the audience, are introduced at the
start of the course.
The course developer and presenter, Thomas Simko, PhD, PEng, has
research experience and many publications in the area of windows. He
was extensively involved in the International Energy Agency Task 18
(Advanced Glazing Materials). Dr. Simko has taught this topic to
undergraduate and graduate students, and he
has received nine university teaching awards.
